Safe on TPMS Valve Stems
This matters more than most listings admit. Every Cadillac sold in the US since 2008 has tyre pressure monitoring, and on those cars the valve stem is part of the sensor. A bare metal cap screwed onto a brass or nickel stem can corrode and seize in place, and forcing a seized cap is how people snap the stem and end up replacing a sensor.
These caps use a nylon-lined thread, so aluminium never contacts the stem directly, and the galvanic reaction that causes seizing cannot start.
What the Cap Actually Does
The valve core holds the air in your tyre — the cap does not. What the cap does is keep grit, road salt and water out of the core, which is what degrades the seal over time and causes the slow leaks that make a tyre lose a few PSI a month. A sealed cap keeps the core clean and working as it should.
Fitting
- Unscrew the original cap and set it aside
- Wipe the valve stem clean
- Screw the new cap on by hand until it seats — do not overtighten
Keep the original plastic caps somewhere in the car. If you ever have a puncture repaired at a shop that removes the caps, they are useful to have as spares.

Are metal caps safe on TPMS sensors? +
It depends on the cap. A bare aluminium cap on a brass or nickel TPMS stem can corrode and seize, especially where roads are salted in winter, and forcing a seized cap is how stems get broken. These caps are nylon-lined so the aluminium never touches the stem, which prevents the reaction that causes seizing.
Will they fit my Cadillac? +
Yes. Valve stems use a standard Schrader thread across every Cadillac model and year, and across almost every passenger car sold anywhere. Model, year, trim and wheel size make no difference. They also fit the spare wheel if yours has a conventional valve.
Do valve caps affect tyre pressure? +
Not directly — the valve core is what holds the air, and a tyre with no cap at all will hold pressure normally. What the cap does is keep grit, salt and water out of the core, which is what degrades the seal over time. Protecting the core is how a cap helps pressure stay stable in the long run.
How tight should I screw them on? +
Hand tight only, until the cap seats. Never use pliers. Overtightening compresses the seal and makes the cap harder to remove later, which defeats the point of having a cap you can take off at the air pump.
What if a cap gets stuck? +
Do not force it. Apply penetrating oil to the thread, leave it a few minutes, and try again by hand. Twisting hard with pliers risks snapping the valve stem, which on a TPMS-equipped car means replacing the sensor rather than a cheap rubber valve. If it will not free, a tyre shop can remove it safely.
How many come in a set? +
Four, one per wheel. If you want a fifth for the spare, order two sets. Choose black or silver from the options above — silver reads closest to a factory finish on polished wheels, while black suits darker or machined-face wheels.
